Applications for funding from the KiwiSport fund is now open, with local groups encouraged to apply to Sport Bay of Plenty.
The KiwiSport Fund is a government-funded initiative to promote sport for school-aged children, managed by Sport BOP on behalf of the community.
A hundred per cent of funds are distributed to sporting and community organisations in the Bay of Plenty.
The funding rounds are held annually for sporting and community organisations to apply for investment for projects that meet the outcomes of KiwiSport.
Sport BOP sport manager Megan Cleverley says KiwiSport has been a great government initiative to increase participation in organised sport in our communities.
'It has been great to see this investment reach our many rural areas and have such a positive impact in reducing barriers for young people.”
The aim of KiwiSport is to:
- Increase the number of school-aged children participating in organised sport
- Increase the availability and accessibility of sport opportunities for all school-aged children
- Support children to develop skills that enable them to participate confidently in sport
Sport BOP has two types of funds available: the KickStart Fund and the Skilled Deliverers Fund.
The KickStart Fund (up to $2000) is aimed at smaller projects that meet the outcomes of KiwiSport and are innovative and reduce barriers for students to participate in sport.
The Skilled Deliverers Fund (up to $15,000) is aimed at new initiatives (or current initiatives that are expanding into new areas) to develop skilled deliverers i.e. referees, officials, umpires, event managers and teachers.
Applications close 12pm Friday August 11.
More information can be found on the Sport BOP website.

I saw a load of school kids running the other day. 90% didn't have footwear. Buy them some. I don't recall seeing many Olympians running around barefoot. Am I in Africa?

A lot of children chose to not wear shoes just because you see someone without shoes doesn't always mean they don't have any
