Almost 2000 rubber ducks floated along the edge of the Tauranga Harbour on Sunday in a slow-paced race for charity.
The event was organised by Tauranga Te Papa Rotary, and helped raise funds for Waipuna Hospice and local surf lifesaving clubs.
Members of the public were able to ‘adopt' a duck for $5, while business could purchase a larger duck for $200 to take part in the corporate challenge.
The first race of the day involved 50 corporate ducks, and was won by Signature Homes, with PGG Wrightson in second place and Brooklyn Bar & Restaurant coming in third.
First prize of $1000 in the main race went to Keith Ardern of Tauranga, with a host of spot prizes also on offer.

We're ALL ducks accounted for at the end of the race? Or did some escape to float off to the Great Plastic Garbage Patch in the Ocean? Who is responsible for this? These cute little ducks are essentially just plastic waste.

Couldn't agree more. They'll be spotting those in years to come in Papamoaners seawater tunnel to his basement aquarium.
