A man who has been part of the Tauranga radio scene for most of his working life is now moving onto other pastures.

Andrew Love is also known as being the voice of Racing Tauranga.

Now the well-known local is going camper vanning around Europe with his wife Louise Dean.

'We don't really know how long we are going to be. We initially said a year, but that's a bit dumb because a year would take us to the middle June which is this time now. You wouldn't want to come home in the middle of winter would you, when its summer over there?”

Andrew started in Radio in Tauranga in 1970 at what was then 1ZD as a salesman.

When he left in 2013 it was as general manager of The Radio Network and the radio station was rebranded as Classic Hits. Louise and Andrew met at the station, where she was general manager.

Their recent wedding reception was held at the Owens Lounge at the Tauranga Racecourse. In the last four years Andrew has been the public voice of Racing Tauranga.

Andrew and Louise flew out on Wednesday to pick up the camper van in Wales, sight unseen –but checked out by Andrew's brother's mother in law.

'It was almost brand new, it had only done 2000 miles, and it turned out it was at a place in Wales,” says Andrew.

'When we got talking to him on line – my brother lives over there – and he happened to be from his mother in law's town. So she went round and had a look. It was brand new and we bought it on line.”

The plan at this stage is to load up with French wine in Calais, and then head to Norway's North Cape to watch the midnight sun.
