Helping filmmakers get to Portland

Five young and budding Tauranga filmmakers need your help to get them to the United States for the finals of an international film competition taking place this June.

The filmmakers were the second and third place winners of the inaugural International Youth Silent Film Festival New Zealand Regionals which were held at Baycourt last October.

Along with cash prizes, second place winners Tina Jeong and Natalia Luna Sanz, and third place winners Liam, Emily and Jack Davison have all been invited to the week-long International Youth Silent Film Festival Final in Portland, Oregon.

To help get the filmmakers to Portland, Baycourt is hosting the ‘Get Them to Portland' fundraising event in the community and arts centre's X Space this Friday.

'The event will include interactive film opportunities, information about the International Youth Silent Film Festival 2017 competition and workshops, a showing of the Top Ten NZ IYSFF finalists and winning International IYSFF films,” says Baycourt manager Megan Peacock Coyle.

The event will also feature a screening of BOP Film's latest short film latest short film Just 3 Girls, plus the collective's president Anton Steel will be talking about upcoming workshop and networking opportunities.

The ‘Get Them to Portland' fundraising evening takes place in Baycourt Community and Arts Centre's X Space on Friday, April 28, from 6.30–8pm.

Tickets cost $18 for adults, $15 for concession, $12 for children 15 and under, and can be purchased online at ticketek.co.nz
