A young girl has suffered serious injuries after she was struck by a ute in Whakatane on Friday evening.
A police spokesperson says the child was hit by the vehicle on Awatapu Drive shortly before 5.30pm, but was unable to confirm the age of the child or if the incident occurred on the roadway.
'She sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital by her family.
'The driver of the ute drove to the police station immediately following the incident.”
The Serious Crash Unit has been notified and enquiries are ongoing.
