Update on Coromandel road closures

Sections of State Highway 25 on the Coromandel which were closed due to the recent heavy rains are expected to be opened later today.

But the Thames-Coromandel District Council still urges all motorists to continue to take care when driving as debris can still come down and pot holes can form because of the wet weather.

According to the latest NZ Transport Agency update sent to TCDC this morning, SH25/Thames Coast Road at Ngarimu Bay will hopefully be open with stop/go management in place at 3pm.

'This time is subject to change but contractors are working hard to meet it,” says TCDC in a post to Facebook.

Further north on SH25, a priority one-way give-way will also be installed at a washout 1km north of Kirita Bay Road near Kereata.

On the other side of the peninsula, the SH25/Whangamata Bypass Road which was closed due to slips is expected to be reopened by 5pm, while both lanes of SH25A are expected to be open by 3pm.

While both lanes of SH2 in Karangahake are open, with a 30km/h speed limit in place.
