Coromandel roads under pressure

The rain has gone, but the cleanup continues.

The Thames Coast road remains closed and officials expect this combined with delayed Easter holidayers will triple the traffic volumes on the SH25 eastern route.

Tairua-Whitianga and SH25A Kopu-Hikuai roads are expected to be under pressure. There are still road works and traffic management in place so drivers can expect delays, add at least 40 minutes to your trip, and drive with caution.

'Mayor Sandra Goudie has arrived at the Council offices to sign the termination of the declaration of the local state of emergency,” says Civil Defence Controller Garry Towler.

'I would like to thank our community for the past few days during the storm, and will now close the Emergency Operating Centre which will allow our 40-plus staff involved to go home for a well-earned break."

'A very big thank-you to the roading contractors who have worked 24/7 over the past few weeks now to ensure our roads are safe, give them a wave when you see them out working this Easter weekend,” says Mr Towler.
