Locals put on good show in golf croquet

Nearly 60 golf croquet players from around the upper North Island battled it out at last weekend's 12th Annual BOP Golf Croquet Tournament.

Although the tournament was hosted by Katikati Croquet Club, the large number of entrants meant the intermediate and primary grades were played at the Tauranga club on the Saturday.

Players came from several Auckland area clubs as well as the many clubs in the Bay of Plenty, Thames Valley and the Waikato.

The well-organised tournament was managed by the Katikati club's past president and treasurer Steve Piercy, and sponsored by Property Managers Group of Tauranga.

With the assistance of Katikati non-match playing members, the operation ran both smoothly and efficiently. A special thanks was given to Lynne Roberts, who managed the scoring and directed play at Katikati.

The three days of competition began with the doubles matches being played on Friday in Katikati, followed by the singles matches at Katikati and Tauranga on Saturday and Katikati on Sunday.
