The two Western Bay of Plenty Championship matches played at Blake Park on Saturday brought the curtain down on another very successful local cricket season.

WBOPCA new season recruit Lake Taupo Cricket Club completed the Western Bay of Plenty Cricket competitions with a WBOPCA unbeaten season, after they annexed the Reserve Grade Championship.

Squaring off with Whakatane United in the title decider, the Taupo boys bowled first and rolled the Eastern Bay side for 98. Ruan Simensen was the only Whakatane United batsman to reach the twenties, with Taupo bowler Moko Rivers taking three wickets for just six runs.

Blaine Inch led his Taupo team to a four wicket victory with an unbeaten 58. Their championship silverware will sit alongside the WBOPCA First Round title they won prior to the Christmas holiday break.

Tauranga Boys' College third XI, who consist of Year 10 and 11 players, annexed the Western Bay B Grade Championship crown, after they beat defending titleholders in the Singh XI.

The Te Puke region team batted for and were bowled out for a paltry 84 runs. Pambir Singh top scored for the Singh XI with 28 runs, with Deeraj Kotgwal in outstanding form with the ball grabbing four wickets at a cost of just 11 runs.

An unbeaten 19 runs from Campbell Smith got the Tauranga Boys' third team home to a five wicket win. The young Tauranga Boys' students win in their debut season in senior men's cricket again highlighted the outstanding Tauranga Boys' College cricket pathway.

Former Baywide Reserve Grade heavyweight Katikati got some season silverware when they defeated Geyser City from Rotorua, in the WBOPCA Reserve Grade Plate Final. Batting first, Katikati posted 206/5, with Ben Warren hitting a half century.

Warren backed up his batting performance to take four wickets for 23 runs, as his side bowled the Rotorua representatives out for 104 to claim a 102 run victory.
