Police have named the 87-year-old man killed after being hit by a car in Tauranga yesterday.
Cyril Walter Jaggard, of Brookfield, died after being hit by a car on Vale Street, in Bureta, around 10am.
The road was closed for a couple of hours as scene examination was undertaken.
"Police would like to thank members of the public and doctors from the Bureta Medical Centre for their assistance at the scene.
"Our thoughts are with Mr Jaggard's family and loved ones."

This is sad, the only thing that bugs me is the people who come out of the woodwork and say its a terrible crossing,(nothing wrong with it) treat it with respect,same as the people about Welcomebay accident,always someone to say its a bad corner,its been there for years,i had no trouble back and forth in T@Trailer,just stay on your side,it must have been HORRIFIC for driver in truck to see a car in front of him, (wondering why cossed centre line begs belief)Immmm be interesting to see outcome,its sad but happens,hope the truck driver is ok and my thoughts are with him,being a driver,this will haunt him,going about doing his job and boom its changed his life,only he could say what happened being right there,very sad Sunlive my thoughts only, ,you are No1 in the Bay for NEWS Thankyou 10-4 out.
