Rain moving across the North Island

Rain is forecast for the region right through until Tuesday,

People in the Bay of Plenty and Coromandel are being warned to take an umbrella to work with them today.

The MetService is ‘moderately confident' a rainfall warning will be required for the Coromandel Peninsula and Bay of Plenty on Sunday and Monday.

The weather organisation says a large, slow-moving low is expected to lie over the Tasman Sea and west of the North Island during the weekend before weakening on Monday.

'The low and its associated fronts are likely to bring rain to many North Island and some South Island places during the weekend and on Monday.

'A ridge of high pressure is expected just east of the South Island during the weekend and it should expand to cover most of the country on Tuesday.”

MetService says for the rest of eastern Waikato and northern Taupo there is low confidence a warning will be needed on Sunday and Monday.
