Police were alerted after a man was seen offering lollies to pupils at Te Akau Ki Papamoa School on Friday.

Headmaster Bruce Jepsen posted on the school's Facebook page that three of the school's older children were offered lollies by a man while on their way to school.

He was standing at the corner of Longstead Avenue. Police were later notified.

Bruce asks parents to talk to their children and remind them of safe practices to and from school and the risks associated with stranger danger.

'No one was harmed and the school is keeping an eye out for any unusual or out of the ordinary behavior,” he adds.

The police media team says police are aware of the incident and encourage anyone with concerns to contact Papamoa police.

No one has been arrested or spoken to in relation to the alleged behavior, but police are regularly patrolling the area and continue to work with schools to keep children in the community safe.

This week Bruce again posted on the school's Facebook page saying that with the support of the community the school has been able to put a positive identity to the ‘stranger danger' – and that the school and police have taken action to address the situation.

'I am satisfied that through procedures and positive collaboration with the community and the police, we can continue with day to day operations,” says Bruce.

He was away from the school today and could not be contacted for further comment.
