Tree breaks forestry worker’s leg

A forestry worker is in hospital with a broken leg after a tree fell on him.

The 25-year-old man was working at a forestry block east of Taneatua at 10am yesterday when the incident happened.

The Tauranga-based Truspower TECT Rescue Helicopter was called in to transport the injured man to Whakatane Hospital.

Pilot and base manager Liam Brettkelly says the man was winched to safety and flown to Whakatane hospital for treatment.

I take my hat off to the Rescue Helicopter pilot Liam Brettkelly you are a HERO,Thankyou for the AWESOME WORK YOU DO, all weathers you people are out there to save lives etc, you are BRAVE, and you like many others in this sort of work see a lot, most of us never see,FLY safely, my friend died in a forestry accident yrs ago in Taupo and there was No rescue Chopper then, i helped to bring him out, (sad).
