Today the weather forecast is for more rain, with possible thunder and a strong northwesterly.

A low is expected to move southeast across the northern North Island today, bringing further periods of heavy rain, which should ease by evening.

MetService reports the heaviest falls here are likely in eastern Bay of Plenty where another 50 to 70mm of rain may accumulate by nightfall.

Rainfall in these areas, especially where there the ground is sodden from previous heavy rain, is likely to cause rivers and streams to rise rapidly. It can also lead to flash flooding and hazardous driving conditions.

Many outdoor activities for today have been cancelled or postponed, but check out what's still happening on our What's On page.
