Victim killed on Bay crash named

Police have released the name of the 60-year-old man killed in a two-vehicle crash in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

State Highway 30, near Awakeri, was closed for about four hours when two vehicles smashed into one another just before 4pm.

Harry Titoko, 60, of Tawera in the Eastern Bay of Plenty died at the scene, while another person was transported to Whakatane Hospital.

Police closed down the stretch of highway to allow the serious crash unit to investigate the scene.

It was re-opened around 8pm.

Sergeant Ray Wylie of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the crash.

He urges them to contact their nearest police station.

Enquires into the cause of the crash are continuing.
