Gang tensions in Brookfield

Members of the Mongrel Mob and Black Power gangs created a bit of stir in Brookfield yesterday afternoon. File photo.

A stand-off between two rival gangs in Tauranga was diffused before things escalated to an all-out brawl.

Witnesses to the event says members of Black Power and Mongrel Mob were 'staunching each other out” in the car park of the Brookfield shopping centre on the corner of Bellevue and Otumoetai roads just before 4pm yesterday.

One person, who wishes not to be named, says they were getting some money out of the machine with things started to heat up.

'There were at least three Black Power members yelling. I looked up to see a man leaning out of a car wearing a red bandana on his face, and I knew we just had to get out there.

'I jumped in the car with my wife and as we were backing out of our car park, the Black Power and Mongrel Mob guys were standing behind our car, stopping us from backing out any further.

'They were all wearing their patches, and were yelling and jumping all over the place.”

As the man and his wife tried to exit the car park, a woman in a white car blocked off the exit onto Otumoetai Road.

'I can't understand what she was trying to do. She just stopped her car right in the middle of the exit and was motioning for people to go around her. This forced us to have to drive into oncoming traffic in order to get out of the car park.

'We called the police and got out of everyone's way.”

Police say they received several calls to the incident yesterday afternoon.

'This was a disorder incident where there was a fight between two parties,” says a police spokesperson.

'Police attended and the parties dispersed with no arrests made.”

They were causing a disturbance in a public place and intimidating people.

will still be there from the Whakatane incident. A Mongy was trying to staunch out a friend at Owens Pl Liquorland last week. Why do the Police not smash out these gangs out of existence.

Isn't it easier for police to catch people without seat belts than deal with thugs?

No Arrests???

If it were ordinary Joe Public causing this disturbance, The court case would have already been and gone . . . Guilty & fined! Why do we tread so lightly with intimidation??

"Staunching each other our"?! What is that? They are big girls and not intimidating at all. Just dumb losers that I laugh at every time I see them. Pathetic scum.

Just let them kill each other. NZ would be a better place without these losers.

by "Maildrop", you are correct though in saying they are weak!, but let's see how tough you are in a confrontation!, easy to sound "staunch" on a keyboard.
