Two dangerous offenders on the run from police in the Hawke's Bay might be receiving help from members of the public to evade capture.

Senior Sergeant Nick Dobson says wanted men Shawn Harding, 40, and Zane Lewis, 26, who are both being actively sought by police are considered to be armed and dangerous.

Despite multiple searches carried out in the Hawke's Bay area, police have been unable to locate Harding or Lewis.

'We believe acquaintances of theirs are providing them with a place to stay. If we find evidence of anyone assisting Lewis or Harding to evade police, then they could be charged with a criminal offence.”

Harding has a history of violent offending and has warrants for arrest on driving-related offences.

While Lewis, who has distinctive tattoos covering much of his face along with tattoos on his forearms, chest and hand, has warrants for arrest on a range of charges in relation to dishonesty offences, breach of community work and release conditions and driving offences.

The two are not believed to be known to each other, says Nick.

'These two individuals are considered dangerous and both may well have firearms on them.

'Neither of these individuals should be confronted at any time but sightings should be reported immediately on 111."

Anyone who may be able to help locate Shawn Harding or Zane Lewis should contact their nearest police station immediately.

Information can also be reported anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Spend hundreds of man hours searching for them........wet bus ticket at court......not enough prison spaces....bail them or release early.....hunt them again.....repeat.....employ more cops to round them up. Dumb. Wasting money and not keeping us safe.

A fine pair

Obviously of very high intelligence. Send them up to Saudia Arabia for punishment. They don't muck around with low lifes up there. What a powerful deterrent that would be after the first few come back freshly punished.
