Looking good for the weekend

The weather might be perfect on Saturday.

Rain and cloud is clearing today bringing a fine Friday of 23C and a perfect Saturday of 26C and light breezes.

Sunday is expected to be cloudy, but still warm, says Metservice forecaster Tuporo Marsters.

The trough that brought Wednesday evening's rush hour showers is now sitting west of Auckland.

'And now they are getting the downpours,” says Tuporo.

'We have a watch for them that is probably going to be cancelled.

'The outlook for Tauranga looking quite nice. At the moment you have a big cloud sheet over across you that should move to the north east. The cloud cover was breaking up south of Tauranga near Taupo this morning."

Tauranga received about 5mm of rain, mainly between 4-6pm on Wednesday.

'Most of the rain fell over the Gisborne hills and the Eastern Bay of Plenty, says Tuporo.

There was a little bit that went over the city, some showers about 10pm. The heaviest stuff went over the Coromandel.

Further north Kerikeri received 60mm of rain, the Gisborne ranges received about 80mm overnight and Wairoa about 65mm.

'You guys are a little more sheltered.”
