A driver who it is said refused to stop, struck a pushchair on an intersection at Girven Road, Mount Maunganui, knocking a baby out of the pushchair and onto the road.
The alleged hit and run happened at the intersection of Girven Road and Grenada Street about 12.35pm. A mother was pushing her two year old son across the road in a pushchair when it was struck by the car. The car drove on without stopping. The mother and baby made their way to a nearby medical centre, The Doctors Bayfair where a staff member says they are both okay. Police are at the scene.
A police spokeswoman confirms police are in attendance at a traffic incident on Girven Road which involves a car and a pedestrian and a pushchair.

We all hope they catch him or her. Special crimes deserve special punishment, but in our touchy feely society it never happens.

at an unbelievably busy intersection, have the Police been able to identify the person and vehicle which did this...or did everyone see "nothing at all"?...

would anyone push a child across an uncontrolled intersection when a car is so close the child is being put at risk? OK, the driver didn't stop but the person pushing the child should take a large percentage of the responsibility. It sounds like there has been some intimidation along the way.
