Surf conditions have resulted in Omanu's surf life saving compeiton being postponed.Surf life saving is scheduled at Omanu today.

UPDATED: 10.30am. The Women's cricket matches at the Bay Oval this afternoon are cancelled, Bay of Plenty Cricket has announced.

The Omanu Day of Champions which was scheduled to start at 10am today, is postponed until later in the week. Surf at Omanu is said to be messy and very windy.

The Omanu Day of Champions is described as the richest short course surf life saving event with $6000 in prizes.

The classic round the Mount swim is taking place today, but organisers are taking the alternate course around Pilot Bay, instead of asking competitors to swim out through the entrance. Swells of 4.8m are recorded at A Beacon 7.41am.

The Medieval Faire at the Tauranga Boy's College Southey Field today is also cancelled.

There's been 11.4mm of rain recorded at Tauranga since 6am today. The Bay of Plenty rain radar shows lightening skies and the winds are expected to turn westerly about lunchtime.

The Omokoroa Yacht Clubb has cancelled racing today.
