They can be a hub where congratulations are served, supporters cheer, belongings are stowed, and people huddle in anticipation or hide from the elements.

Surf lifesaving tents are as integral as its members and are invaluable to any surf club and beach.

They serve as sun protection for tourists and the general public, and as a portable base for juniors, seniors and masters to gather when competing.

'Every year thousands of beachgoers head to Omanu Beach and are kept safe by the service the club provides,” says Bayfair Shopping Centre marketing manager Kylie McGregor.

'Bayfair Shopping Centre is continuing our support for Omanu Surf Life Saving Club this year by donating $8000 worth of surf lifesaving tents to the club.”

The two tents purchased will travel across the country with the club for numerous surf lifesaving events this year.

So far the tents have been used for competitions and tournaments around the country every weekend.

In late December, Omanu won the Junior Bay Champs for the third year in a row, and this Sunday the tents are making their local debut at the annual Omanu Beach Day of Champions.

The day is New Zealand's richest short course event where some of the world's best athletes will be competing, including the current World Ironman Champ Max Beattie as well as members of the World Champion Black Fins team.

Spectators are invited to come down to Omanu Beach clubrooms at 10am to see the new tents, and cheer the competitors on.
