Night vision googles were used to help fly a sick man to Waikato Hospital early this morning.

The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was called to Te Kaha Medical Centre around 4.30am, where a 60-year-old man was suffering from a serious medical condition.

Pilot Todd Dunham says the man required immediate hospital care.

'The patient was stabilised by St John paramedics before being flown to Waikato Hospital.

'The flight was conducted under night vision goggles.”

Todd says the helicopter was called due to the nature of the medical condition and distance to the required hospital.
