State Highway 33, between Te Puke and Rotorua, is now open after a truck rolled earlier this morning.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says the truck driver was injured in the crash, and has been taken to Tauranga Hospital by ambulance.

Police were forced to close the highway, between Old Coach and Allport roads when the crash was reported around 5.30am.

The highway was closed to allow for logs and other debris to be removed off the road.

Maketu Fire Brigade and St John Paramedics were also called to the scene this morning.

The highway was re-opened around 9am.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

Are there any loggingtruck drivers who have heard about "Centrifugal force".

No. Big words confuse. Big numbers no good too, so just drive as fast as like until logs fall off or run out of road. Stop then. Cops confuse too. No action, repeat.

I fail to understand why the police have to close a major highway every time there is an accident. Surely they can get the traffic moving quicker after seeing to the injured.

marbles

On that particular corner they just resealed the other day but did not sweep off the "marbles" in the centre or on the outside line which you can see clearly in the picture. As you come from rotorua and you get to this corner less than 50 meters before you hit the corner there is a 50km sign. There is no way at this distance a fully loaded logger could slow down to 50 in that distance and so he probably went around that corner at the speed you normally would and lost it on the marbles.....

Marbles or tosh Ken

Assuming the truck driver knows the road like the back of his hand (which is highly likely unless it was his first week on the job), he knew the corner was coming, and more he knows the speed limit is 50 on the corner. So, your theory that he doesn't have time to slow down is utter tosh. If he took it at the prescribed speed limit the "marbles" would not be an issue. The more likely scenario is that he was doing excess speed before the corner, ignored the 50 sign, and took the corner at excess speed, ignoring the speed limit again, and yes, the "marbles" may or may not have been a factor. The main factor though, yet again, is ignoring the speed limit. Barely a day goes by without a truck going off the road for no apparent reason, but you always find one!

Clearly you have never driven a class 5 truck and trailer unit. Everyload is different so regardless of weather you went around the same corner at 90 km last time does not mean you will be able to do it this time. Clearly this time he was going too fast for the conditions. As i have said the conditions have changed dramitacally and following this accident the same day all the marbles were miracusly swept up and taken off the road. I wonder why they did that? Want to guess why maildrop? When you come around the corner and first spot the 50km sign as i did i could not slow down to 50 before the roadworks either as the sign was placed too close to the roadworks for a heavy vehicle to do so. I made the comment a few days earlier of that fact to my colegues.

The roadworks crews should put their signs out to slow to 50 about 400 meters before you hit the marbles not 50 meters. Im sure Maildop you can realise why.....all these things are contributing factors.... And why straight after the crash did they sweep up all the loose marbles????? Bet you can guess why..,
