If you're wondering what's next in 2017, local tertiary providers Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology and the University of Waikato have the perfect opportunity for you.

They're holding an Information Day on Wednesday, January 25, providing locals with a look into tertiary options available in Tauranga – from degrees and diplomas, through to certificates and short-courses.

Toi Ohomai school liaison Scott Henderson says it's not only an opportunity for school leavers, but potential mature students as well.

'A lot of our focus is on getting students is based around school leavers, but the general public don't often have the chance to meet the tutors and see the inside of the workshops and classrooms.

'It's a way of reaching out to the wider community. School leavers are about 30 per cent of our students, so most of our students come from a wider pool.”

He says it's a good time to come and see what's on offer if you're sitting on the fence.

'NCEA results also come out on January 17, so students might get their envelopes and realise they have more options based on how well they've done.”

The event begins at 1pm in Lecture Theatre A3 at the Windermere Campus, and includes guided tours of the campus and Q&A sessions with tutors. The day will wrap up just after 3pm.

'We want to keep it short and sweet, so if mature students have children childcare they could get back in time for them,” says Scott.

'We're going to be highlighting what's available to students. That includes learning support, health services, a functioning beauty salon, an automotive workshop – things people might not have thought of, that are added bonuses to being a student here.”

Whether you're a high school graduate weighing up future career options, someone wanting to upskill in a current or role, or can't stand the thought of another year stuck in a dead-end job, come along and find out what's on offer in 2017.

Agree Capt. Sensible. How much was spent on rebranding? How much was spent on consultants? The consultants that said "you" need to rebrand and then the consultants who came up with the new name. As an employer I think BOP Poly and Waiariki Institute and will likely forget anything else.

Totally agree
