Christmas Eve drowning victim named

Police have released the name of the young girl who drowned in Whakamarama on Christmas Eve.

She was 13-year-old Annalise Reid of Tauranga.

She died after slipping into a water hole on the Wainui River at about 1.35pm.

An extensive search was carried out in the afternoon, until her body was recovered at 4pm.

Police extend their sympathies to Annalise's family and friends.
