The magic of Mount Hard Park

Drift, drag, street and race cars, old school low-riders to high-end imports – the open invitation for any and all vehicle makes 2016's Mount Hard Park an easy sell to punters.

And with a car for every connoisseur – from amateurs to experts – on display at ASB Baypark on December 28, organisers expect hundreds of cars and thousands of enthusiasts.

Mount Hard Park last parked up at Brewers Field in 2013 – now, three years on, it's under new management and is shifting to ASB Baypark carpark on December 28 from 10am-4pm.

Event manager Marc Patton says the move will mean they'll have space to park up at least 450 vehicles in the fourth Mount Hard Park event.

'Brewers Field limited us in terms of space. Now we'll have more space for cars – and we're hoping for anything from 2500 spectators upwards to come through the event.

Marc says there is no limit on cars the public want to enter. 'If you want to show your car, you can put it in. It's a completely open event.”

And that's the magic of Mount Hard Park. It gives car enthusiasts the opportunity to display their pride and joy in a secure environment with like-minded people.

'We've got everything from stock cars coming to D1NZ pro cars and everyday street cars,” says Marc.

Feature cars include a 13B Turbo Suzuki Carry Van, local man Ben Belcher's DEFWSH DRIFT RX7, fellow local Cole Armstrong and his V Energy-sponsored drift weapon, plus much more.

And there will be rivalry revving up, with the event having 15 categories in its prizegiving.

Classes are Best Engine, Best Muscle, Best Truck, Best Daily Driver, Best Euro, Best Japanese, Best Bike, Best Lowrider, Best Project, Best Race/Drift Car and People's Choice.

'There's absolutely all sorts of accolades to give away,” says Marc.

And the event will offer something for the whole family.

'We'll have live performances, a licensed bar area, trade stalls, a kids' area with face painting, a hot food caravan and loads, loads more.”

'Baypark Family Speedway announcer Steve Daniel is Mc-ing the event and we'll have DJs spinning tunes, plus we'll have a Miss Mount Hardpark Model Search and a few other giveaways.”

Marc says Mount Hard Park's December 28 taps in that summer vibe, to draw locals as well as holidaymakers and travellers passing through town.

'We think we've picked perfect time of year – we'll attract people travelling to events like Rhythm and Vines in Gisborne.” There's even a Wellington convoy to Mount Hard Park scheduled on Facebook with 20-odd people set to participate.

And it will be a treat for Tauranga locals too. 'We believe there is nothing of the likes of it around Tauranga – where people can mix and mingle through the whole genre of cars on offer.”

Mount Hard Park is at ASB Baypark on December 28 from 10am-4pm. Car entry is at 8am sharp and costs $20 at the gate. Spectator entry is $5 and under-12s gain free entry.

Mount Hard Park's official afterparty at Imbibe from 7.30pm. Door tickets are $10. For more information, search ‘Mount Hardpark' on Facebook or visit: asbbaypark.co.nz
