Tauranga Airshow returning in January

The second annual Classics of the Sky Tauranga City Airshow returns to Tauranga Airport on January 21, 2017.

The skies above Tauranga will roar with the sounds of fast jets when the second annual Classics of the Sky Tauranga City Airshow returns on January 21.

The fun picnic-style family event taking place at Tauranga Airport will feature jets like the BAC Strikemaster and T6C-Texan trainer aircraft flown by the Royal New Zealand Airforce, plus classic, sports, gliders and RC model aircraft.

'The 2016 afternoon and evening event was so successful we opted to hold the show annually, alternating headline aircraft and an associated event,” say Tauranga City Airshow organisers.

'People are able to bring their own picnic or purchase food and drink on site. Classic Flyers will have a bar available to purchase alcohol but eventgoers are not permitted to bring their own alcohol on site.”

Fast land based vehicles will also be on display all afternoon, with races of some of the world's fastest production super motorbikes, dragsters and hot rods to be held on the airport's 1.8km runway. The 2017 Nissan GT-R 35 is also expected to be making an appearance.

'There is plenty of free parking available on site, with public access in Seawind Lane via the airport end of Jean Batten Drive.”

The Classics of the Sky Tauranga City Airshow takes place at Tauranga Airport on Jean Batten Drive in Mount Maunganui on Saturday, January 21, 2017. Gates open 1pm.

Tickets cost $25 for adults and $15 for children, with discounts available for TECT cardholders when purchased from the Classic Flyers gift shop. Tickets also available online at: www.eventfinda.co.nz.
