Finalists decided

The two top qualifiers battle out the Tai Mitchell Primary Schools title today after both finalists cruised to comfortable victories on day five.

Rotorua is one finalist after retaining its unbeaten run in the 2011 tournament being played in Edgecumbe, by defeating Te Puke 53-12 on Tuesday.

The final will be a classic Bay of Plenty intercity contest with the Rotorua representatives meeting defending champion Tauranga West, which cruised past Opotiki 58-5 on Tuesday.

The final day of the 2011 tournament sees all 10 teams in action with the main event being the Tai Mitchell title decider.

At 12.15pm, Rotorua Maroon and Tauranga West, will take to the field to see who will hold the Tai Mitchell prize aloft in triumph.

The tournament runner-up receives the Lawrence Boynton Shield.

Befitting the prestigious trophy that was first contested in 1938, the final will be controlled by one of the up-and-coming referees in the country.

Glen Jackson, who was a Steamers star just a few years ago, will be in control of the Tai Mitchell final.

The entrée to the Tai Mitchell decider will be provided by the race for third place on field one at 10.45am. Te Puke and Opotiki, which were eliminated from the title race in the semi-finals, will play for the Gavin Parkins Shield awarded to third with the fourth placed side receiving the Rob Shaw Cup.

First up on field one at 9.30am is the plate final, where the victor will receive the Bill Murray Trophy.

Tauranga East will face Whakatane in the battle for fifth place. The other games will see Galatea take on hosts Rangitaiki, with Rotorua Gold and Apanui also meeting.
