Busy Sunday for rescue helicopter

The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter in action on the weekend.

An unwell woman and two patient transfers kept the Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter busy yesterday.

The helicopter was dispatched to Matamata around 1.30pm after a 70-year-old woman become unwell with a serious medical condition, says pilot and base manager Liam Brettkelly.

'The lady was stabilised by St John medics before being flown to Waikato hospital for treatment.

'On return to Tauranga, the helicopter was tasked by Tauranga Hospital for back to back transfers of two patients to Waikato hospital, one for specialist surgery for injuries sustained in a MVA two days ago and the other a cardiac patient.”
