Lotto New Zealand is celebrating after receiving the highest possible international accolade for its responsible gaming programme.

Lotto NZ has recently been awarded the grand prize in the World Lottery Association's biennial Responsible Gaming Awards – ‘Best Overall Responsible Gaming Programme'.

Lotto NZ Chair Judy Kirk says the organisation exists to provide safe gaming that allows New Zealanders to play and win, while contributing money back to New Zealand communities.

'Responsible gaming plays a central role in Lotto's day-to-day operations across all areas of the business, driven by clear governance focus,” she says.

'In receiving this prestigious award, Lotto NZ's approach to responsible gaming is recognised as world class.”

Chair of the World Lottery Association's independent assessment panel Anne Pattberg says Lotto NZ's submission demonstrates their 'holistic” approach to responsible gaming.

'This world class programme shows the importance of integrating responsible gaming into commercial activities.”

Lotto NZ Chief Executive Wayne Pickup is delighted to have received this recognition.

'Responsible gaming plays an important part in our business, as we cannot truly benefit Kiwi communities if playing our games is causing undue harm.”

Internal Affairs Minister Peter Dunne is pleased with the news.

'Lotto NZ has set high standards for providing a safe and trustworthy environment for its players,” he says.

'This award acknowledges the importance Lotto NZ places on operating in a socially responsible manner by delivering a world-beating gaming programme of the highest integrity.”

Last year, Lotto NZ transferred $204 million to the NZ Lottery Grants Board to help make good things happen in Kiwi communities. This essential funding helps thousands of community groups support the arts, sport, culture and heritage, outdoor safety and many more regional and national initiatives.

What a load of bollocks.! Best Overall responsible gaming programme award I would hate to see the ones further down the list.Just look at the hundreds of thousands of Nz,s in the recent powerball of $44m .Queues of people spending megabucks in that hope of winning .Don,t get me wrong I am not against gambling persay but having these organisations and awards give me a break.Who pays the salaries and the awards in these organisations, more than likeley organisations just like lotto from their profits. So lotto gave $204m in grants how much revenue in gambling dollars did that equate to get that total.Between Lotto and it,s extra,s keno ete,the TAB and pokies the amounts gambled each week are obscene.Unfortunately not everyone has either the will power or can afford what they spend.I know what people spend as I worked in Petrol Station with lotto.
