Western Bay of Plenty cricket players will be hoping for more settled weather as Reserve and B Grade first round title chases move back into full swing today.

While Lake Taupo CC leads the standings, R&A Sangha and Greerton sit just ten points in arrears of the competition leaders. Te Puke is in fourth place, with Mount Maunganui, Sikh Sports and Whakatane United lurking ten points further back.

The Sangha XI has become a real force in WBOPCA Reserve Grade, but they could have a fight on their hands on the weekend against Tauranga Boys College at Blake Park two.

Tauranga Boys were the surprise package of last year's Reserve championship reaching the semi-finals, before bowing out to eventual champions Te Puke. The Sangha XI also reached the playoffs being beaten by Te Puke in the title decider.

Defending First Round titleholders Greerton play Aquinas College on the grass at Fergusson Park, with the Aquinas students ready to benefit from last year's debut season in senior men's club cricket.

Competition leaders Taupo will be getting to know State Highway 2 intimately with their third trip away from home in the opening four weeks. They are likely to have a big test on Saturday, playing last season's WBOPCA Championship winners Te Puke at the Te Puke Domain.

Geyser City host Mount Maunganui at Board Park, with Cadets are at home at the Tauranga Domain to Katikati, while Sikh Sports are on the road to play Whakatane United.

B Grade new recruits in the Tauranga Boys College third eleven have made an unbeaten start to their debut in Western Bay senior club cricket. Tauranga Boys mentor Grant Manners and Scott Ellerington sit in the top two spots in the batting stakes and give the side plenty of batting firepower.

Round Three matches the Tauranga students against Mount Maunganui at Blake Park. The 'Mounties” B Graders have won a myriad of titles over the years, with the encounter likely to test Tauranga Boys aspirations.

The Singh XI have made a big impression in their short time in the Western Bay of Plenty competition, culminating in the 215/16 Championship. Sitting just off the pace, they meet Albion who scored a rare victory over fellow Fergusson Park based side Wanderers at their last outing.

Wanderers and Grasshoppers travel out to the Papamoa to square off at the Gordon Spratt Reserve. Both sides have tasted B Grade championship victory in recent times with a good battle likely to take place.
