Good morning Sunners and welcome to Saturday - the first day of what will hopefully be a relaxing or invigorating weekend.
And what a day it's likely to be, with the MetService predicting a few early showers early on before they give way to what should be a perfect day for the Pink Ribbon Race Day at Tauranga Racecourse, or some Buskathon 4 StarJam busking at the Rockshop on Elizabeth Street.
Tauranga Racing's Pink Ribbon Race Day will be looking to raise funds to help support the great work which the Breast Cancer Foundation carries out in the community each and every day.
While entry is free, patrons will be asked for a gold coin donation at the gate, says Racing Tauranga Sponsorship and Marketing manager Andrew Love.
'The sponsors of each of the eight races will also have a chance to win for the Breast Cancer Foundation. They are all being invited to select a horse in the race they sponsor, and if that horse wins, Racing Tauranga will donate $200 to the Breast Cancer Foundation.”
The Pink Ribbon Race Day takes place at Tauranga Racecourse starts at 12.35pm and wraps up before 5pm. For more information visit: www.facebook.com/taurangaracecourse/
You can also show your support for another great charity and some amazing local talent today, and all you need is a pair of ears and big heart.
Buskathon 4 StarJam aims to raise money for StarJam, a not-for-profit that works with young people with disabilities (Jammers) by providing in musical workshops in Tauranga, Hamilton, Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington.
The event feature performances from Jammers, up and coming musicians, plus some well-known Kiwis. Food and drink will also be available.
'Buskathon 4 StarJam ticks all the boxes for us; it is about music within a fun environment, our Jammers have the opportunity to perform and show people what they can do, it raises the StarJam profile and helps raise funds to ensure we are able to continue our wonderful weekly workshops with the aim to open more workshops for other would be Jammers,” says StarJam CEO Mary Ansell.
Buskathon 4 StarJam event takes place at the Tauranga Rockshop on Elizabeth Street, from 1pm to 3.30pm. For more information visit: www.starjam.org
