The Breast Cancer Foundation is set to benefit from the Pink Ribbon Race Day taking place at Tauranga Racecourse this Saturday.

While entry is free, patrons are being asked for a gold coin donation at the gate to help support the fantastic work the foundation carries out in the community each and every day.

'The sponsors of each of the eight races will also have a chance to win for the Breast Cancer Foundation,” says Racing Tauranga Sponsorship and Marketing manager Andrew Love.

'They are all being invited to select a horse in the race they sponsor, and if that horse wins, Racing Tauranga will donate $200 to the Breast Cancer Foundation.”

Andrew says there'll be plenty of action and fierce competition on the track this Saturday.

Local trainer Brian Mckeagg will be looking for another win when his three-year-old Galloping Gerte starts in the Back To Black 1200 maiden.

At its first outing a fortnight ago Galloping Gerte showed real pace, flying home from the back of the field at the corner for third place. McKeagg also picked up his third winner for the season when Cantare won at Te Rapa last Monday. Mckeagg has one other runner Lola Jane.

Another local trainer Jim Pender, has Ohope Prince lining up in the feature race, The Chesters Plumbing 1300.

Ohope Prince, which has $113,000 in winnings in the bank, hasn't raced since Hastings at the end of August, where it was an all the way winner. Pender's other starters are Falkirk Lass, I'ma shygirl, El Bandido and St Saturnin.

Tauranga Racing's Pink Ribbon Race Day is on Tauranga Racecourse on Saturday, October 29. The eight race programme starts at 12.35pm and wraps up before 5pm.
