Good Neighbour in crash

A member of the Good Neighbour charity is in hospital after a car accident.

The woman seriously injured in the three vehicle crash on State Highway 2 was returning from Te Puke with a load of kiwifruit.

On their Facebook page, Good Neighbour reported one of their members was in the Food Rescue truck returning from Te Puke with kiwifruit, driven by her husband, when the accident occurred.

Good Neighbour co-founder Jackie Paine later posted the woman would be going into surgery today to mend a broken arm, several breaks in her femur, and replace her hip.

The truck itself is a write-off, but they've already been lent a replacement by James Mollison from Tauranga Party Hire, so the food rescue service can continue.

Good Neighbour Trust manager Campbell Hill cannot praise the work of the emergency services enough.

'We can only speak highly of the crew that were there – fire, ambulance, police, helicopter pilots. They were very professional, and I was amazed, particularly given the day they had with all the other incidents,” he says.

'Our Good Neighbour community has been incredible in offering support and we will be working with our volunteers to ensure ongoing support over the coming months of recovery.”

The accident was one of several car crashes rendering yesterday one of the worst in recent memory for road incidents.

Tauranga Party Hire has come to the aid of the organisation with a new truck following yesterday's accident.
