On Thursday night the Cure Kids roadshow came to Tauranga, as part of their two-week national campaign to raise awareness for Red Nose Day.

Red Nose Day is Cure Kids largest annual appeal to raise money for child health research to improve the health outcomes for Kiwi kids.

In Tauranga, the team called in at the BNZ Partner Centre on Cameron Road to meet with partner organisations, including representatives from Tauranga's BNZ, Briscoes and Overland stores, and the local Rotary club.

Event fundraiser Nicky Sinclair-Perkins says the roadshow is also about informing the public of what the charity does.

'In the community there can be some misunderstanding about what we do.

”Some people see us only as a cancer-related charity, but we do work in a range of areas.”

Cure Kids is currently funding, or has previously funded research into inherited heart conditions, childhood cancers, cystic fibrosis, sudden unexpected death in infants, stillbirth, burns, epilepsy, asthma, child and adolescent mental health, among many other health conditions.

In Tauranga, the Red Nose Day team were joined by 10-year-old Cure Kids ambassador Kemper.

At the end of January this year, Kemper was diagnosed with Friedreich's ataxia, a genetic condition that affects the central nervous system.

This is a slow progressive condition that will affect Kemper for the rest of his life and will require further monitoring. Despite the challenges Kemper faces, he doesn't let these hold him back.

As a Cure Kids ambassador, he helps raise awareness, and has a series of fundraisers planned for his school for Red Nose Day.

Tonight the roadshow heads to Hamilton, before returning to Auckland to prepare for their big day in November.

People can make a donation, or volunteer their time by helping a Red Nose Day street appeal on Friday November 18, by visiting the website: www.rednoseday.co.nz

Businesses, schools, or community groups interested in getting involved can get in touch with the team by emailing rednoseday@curekids.org.nz
