Tauranga man to be farewelled

Family and friends are preparing to farewell a Tauranga man killed in a three car crash on State Highway 29 on Friday.

The funeral for Shayne Peter Waaka, 40, who died when the car he was in was involved in a three car crash near Kaimai School will be taking place in Pyes Pa tomorrow.

Since the crash social media has been awash with tributes for Shayne, who's been described as a loving father, son, step-son, brother, uncle and friend.

According to police, two cars collided and then a third was clipped in the crash which occurred on SH29 near Kaimai School just after 3.30pm on Friday.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says they have since spoken to a number of people who witnessed the accident and would like to thank them for their help.

'At this stage our investigation is progressing, but if anyone who has information and not yet spoken to police, we encourage them to come forward.”
