Police are investigating two crashes on State Highway 29 that caused traffic delays in Maungatapu this morning.

The first was a three vehicle crash on the Maungatapu side of the bridge, near the Maungatapu road on-ramp at 8.48am.

'I understand there was an injury involved in that but I don't have any further details,” says Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion.

The second crash was at 9.22am.

The location described to police is SH29A/Welcome Bay Road, near Hairini, 150m south of the Welcome Bay roundabout.

'And that's all I have got at this stage,” says Ian.

'Single car, something about a vehicle being in water but I'm not aware what that's about. Car in flood water, might have been in a drain or ditch I don't know.”

Earlier this morning, firefighters worked to free a person trapped in a car following a crash on State Highway 29 near the intersection of Hairini St.

A Northern Fire Communications shift manager says one person was trapped in the car and had moderate injuries.

No other information is available at this stage.

Have you noticed that there are now markers pegs MOUNT side of this bridge and you cannot get to pass for at least 100 m,what a stupid idea, you cannot clear the bridge quick enough, as it goes to one lane, who ever passed this to have done, needs their head read, all these things to make it safe is just a hindrance, what is wrong with people.my 4 pennies worth,Thankyou No1 in the Bay.
