Retallick to play 100th match

Steamers lock and captain Culum Retallick will run out for his 100th match in the Blue and Gold jersey when Bay of Plenty take on North Harbour in Albany this afternoon.

Debuting on July 13, 2007, against Hawkes Bay in Napier and having played all his provincial rugby for Bay of Plenty, Callum is set to become the province's seventeenth centurion.

'This is a very rare honour, especially in the current rugby environment,” says Bay of Plenty Rugby Union CEO Mike Rogers.

'Over 1100 players have worn the Blue and Gold jersey and Culum joins a very small group that have played more than 100 games for the Bay. Since Culum's debut he has worn the Bay of Plenty jersey proudly and has grown into a respected and valued leader on and off the field.

'He has always shown wonderful commitment and loyalty to the Bay. We are extremely proud of Culum's achievement and it will be a privilege to watch him play his 100th game.”

It will be an incredibly proud occasion for Culum, his family and the whole Bay of Plenty Rugby community, says Mike, and he knows the team will be determined to make Saturday afternoon a memorable one for him.

Bay of Plenty Steamers Head Coach Clayton McMillan says a 100 games is testament to Callum's playing ability and loyalty to the jersey.

'He is an integral part of the side and has grown into a knowledgeable and well respected leader. I can't recall him ever having a bad day at the office which sums him up really,” says Clayton.

'Nothing flashy, just hard work, sound in his core roles, makes his tackles, has high expectations of himself and demands the same from others. He is a great team man who has earned every cap and deserves every accolade that comes his way.”

With a record of one win from seven games in this year's Mitre 10 Cup, it's a must win match for the Steamers against North Harbour in Albany this afternoon.

Four changes have been made to the starting side following last weekend's try-fest which saw the Steamers go down to Auckland 38-44 in Rotorua.

The remainder of the forward pack remains unchanged, aside from hooker James O'Reilly replacing Liam Polwart who suffered a concussion in last weekend's match.

The back line remains relatively unchanged with the exception of Dan Hollinshead starting at first five eight with Kelly Haimona moving to the number 22 jersey. Monty Ioane will return to the starting line up on the right wing with Regan Ware moving to the left wing.

Flanker Henry Stowers, halfback Luke Campbell and full back Te Rangi Fraser will return to start off the bench.
