MetService forecasts wet week ahead

MetService has issued a severe weather watch for the Coromandel with heavy rain predicted to hit the peninsula on Sunday and Monday.

While in the Bay of Plenty, the MetService says there is 'low confidence” a heavy rain warning will be required on Wednesday of next week.

A slow-moving ridge of high pressure currently remains over the South Island, while a complex trough lingers over northern New Zealand.

This set-up is directing a moist east to northeast flow over much of the country throughout the forecast period, says the MetService.

'For some eastern parts of the North Island there is likely to be a prolonged period of wet weather, with rain or showers expected through most of next week.”
