A blooming good festival in Greerton

A crowd in its thousands have made their way down to Greerton Village for the Cherry Blossom Festival which is on today.

The annual festival features a range of entertainment including a live car show, market stalls, street performers and live music, and takes place on Chadwick Road between the roundabouts at Cameron and Greerton roads until 2pm.

Greerton Village Mainstreet manager Sally Benning says within 15 minutes of the festival starting there were 'hundreds and hundreds, if not thousands” of people wandering about the village.

'It's such a great day already, Greerton Village is only too happy to offer such the a wonderful free event like the Cherry Blossom Festival for our families and the community.

'There's a lot of things going on to today, there's a big school gala, we've got more than 100 custom cars lined up along Chadwick Road, great live music, there's even been little kids going past me on donkeys this morning.”

The focus of the annual festival is of course the cherry blossoms that line Chadwick Road.

Sally says while the trees are not yet in full-blossom, there's more flowers on them today than there were on Monday.

'They just need a bit more sun like the rest of us. They're starting to look good and when they're in full-flight, probably by next week, the village will look absolutely stunning.”

Great to see the large numbers but it would be nice if people were more careful were they parked in the side streets. Not leaving room for thru traffic or residence to get out of there properties. hope you all have a great day
