Bay still on weather watch

A severe weather watch remains in place for the Bay of Plenty as a complex trough moves to the southeast this morning.

The trough is what brought heavy rain to the region overnight and caused surface flooding in a number of areas.

The MetService says some heavy falls of rain are likely over the northeast of the North Island, from the Bay of Plenty to northern Hawke's Bay.

In the Bay of Plenty, periods of heavy rain is possible. The MetService is predicting 50mm of rain to possibly fall in the next six hours.

The ranges of Gisborne and the Wairoa District of Hawke's Bay: periods of heavy rain are expected through to about midday Thursday.

'People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case parts of this Watch need to be upgraded to a Warning,” says a statement from the weather organisation.

The watch for heavy rain about the Coromandel Peninsula is now lifted.

This watch will be reviewed by 10am.
