Karangahake Gorge closed

UPDATED 6PM: Waikato Police are advising motorists that State Highway 2 between Paeroa and Waihi is closed in both directions following a crash this evening.

Police say SH2 is closed between Te Aroha Roadd in Paeroa and Dean Crescent in Waihi after a car smashed into a power pole. The road is expected to be closed for two to three hours.

'Diversions are in place. Please avoid the area,” says police.

EARLIER:

A vehicle has struck a power pole south of Paeroa this afternoon.

Emergency services are attending and traffic on SH2 from Tauranga is at a standstill, one person has reported on Facebook.

The automated Traffic Road Event Information System reported the serious incident at 3.20pm and adds that in addition to emergency services being on site, a stop/go is in place for light vehicles only.

The crash is between Paeroa and Mackaytown

The driver was uninjured, says police.

"Police are controlling traffic which is currently down to one lane, and the only access currently is for cars, not trucks or heavier vehicles."

Police ask motorists to avoid the area or delay travel if possible.

If there were no injuries why isn't this crash just cleared straight away. I'm sick of being held up by investigations of crashes

Its very important to hold people up and millions of $$$$$$ in cost to Freight Co,.to divert,how can one person make a call to close the road,if no one hurt,push it off road and get moving,its very important that they attend with their CLIPBOARDS AND Hi Viz and look important,all that POWER,WHO CARES, NO ONE,My Pennies worth,Thanks No1 in the BAY.

live power lines, and why did the idiot crash into power pole in first place. Really it a good piece of road many of us have driven for years and never a problem.
