Baby murder accused appears in court

The 22-year-old Tauranga man accused of murdering a three-month-old child has continued name suppression.

Richard Royal Arif Tekakahi Winiata Uddin died after being taken to Tauranga Hospital for treatment early on the Tuesday morning, June 7.

Following an investigation into the baby's death, police charged a 22-year-old with murder on June 28.

The accused made a brief appearance in Tauranga High Court this morning where he was remanded in custody until his next appearance on November 16.

Today's case review hearing before Justice Tim Brewer set dates for filing of statements and other legal matters.

The alleged offender is due to appear in court via audio visual link at a call-over on November 16 at 9am.

Continued name suppression will be argued before the Court of Appeal on October 19.
