A 29-year-old man arrested in relation to an armed incident in Katikati on Monday will be appearing in court this morning.

Detective senior sergeant Greg Turner says the man is appearing in the Tauranga District Court on three charges – threatening to kill, committing a crime with a firearm and cultivating cannabis.

On Monday police staff from Katikati, Tauranga South and the Tauranga CIB responded to the armed incident at about 2pm after 'allegations were made,” says Greg.

'The Police Armed Offenders Squad cleared the property and this 29-year-old male was arrested later in the night having been located at the address.”

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline yesterday reported seeing about six or seven police vehicles, along with armed police, stopping people travelling up Rea Road at about 5pm.

A police cordon had been set up at the intersection of Killen and Rea roads was stood down following the arrest of the Katikati man.

At the time of the incident police said there was no danger to the public at any time.

As the matter is now before the courts, Greg says police will not be making any further comment.
