Health fears for impounded puppy

The owner of the young pitbull puppy confiscated after it was allegedly involved in an assault is outraged ‘Mojo's' health is deteriorating while at the city's pound.

The 15kg, four month old puppy, was owned by 54 year old Tauranga woman Phillipa Bayley.

The pitbull puppy accused of an assault, but now alleged to be in poor health at the city pound.

It was taken from her when she allegedly assaulted her younger sister Liz Smith at her home in Welcome Bay on May 21.

Liz claims the dog was involved in the assault, causing injuries to her scalp, but Phillipa told SunLive the dog did not attack her sister.

The puppy is currently at the pound and could be destroyed pending the outcome of court proceedings.

Phillipa saw Mojo for the first time at the pound yesterday.

'I finally got around to seeing the puppy and he is going demented,” says Phillipa.

'He was chewing the bars, he was shaking, foaming at the mouth and he has a big ulcer on his front paw.”

Phillipa wants assistance in re-housing the puppy, fearing it will die before authorities decide its future.

'The puppy came to me from the neighbours and it was a very sick little pup, but I've nursed him and nursed him and he was just starting to bounce around and be really happy (before being confiscated).”

Phillipa is due back in Tauranga District Court tomorrow, facing charges in connection with the alleged assault of her sister.

Not Suprising....

Im not suprised the City Pound is making the young pup sick....we had our pup picked up once, because some delivery clown left our gate open, before this he was healthy and had not been off our property, when we picked him up, he was fine untill a couple of days ater, he got realy sick, we took him to the vets and he had contracted Kennel Cough from the City Pound, which cost us a small fortune to get him right, when i phoned the council, they basically didnt want to know.....wonder how many other people have had this sort of thing happen....says alot for the hygiene of our Local City Pound. I think this little guy should be with the SPCA being assessed to be placed into another home rather than the pound.

Really?

If this dog didn't attack this woman's sister, who or what did? This woman put her sister in hospital, alive but permanently scarred, and demands better treatment for the dog? Why is it even still alive? Why has it not been instantly put down? What makes her think she even has rights after what she and her dog did? I'm almost speechless!

Drink involved

I think if you read through the original story & comments, you will actually see that there is more to this story than the puppy attacking this woman, it sounds to me that both sisters were drunk, have had a fight, possibly somewhere there pup has got involved, or possibly the pup has been blamed as revenge toward the sister....who knows...its a strange saga, but the injuries inflicted dont seem to add up to a dog attack, i wouldnt want to see any animal put down because two people cant handle their drink.

Clearly you are angry at something, and I agree with you wholeheartedly when it comes to your opinion of the [alleged] woman attacker, but clearly to put a puppy to death "instantly" would be wrong! Animals have rights whether you like it or not, and it would be an illegal act to carry out your wishes. Until it is proven that the dog was responsible for the injuries "maliciously" and that it is a "danger" to society - it has every right to be alive, AND to be looked after.

pup just needs a home

I would gladly home this pup, all it needs it a owner who will actually teach it and love it.

Im not entirley convinced this puppy did all of the damage. Im sure the sister had a lot to do with the womans black eyes etc. Unfortunally the dog seems to be taking the rap.
