Roads to be fixed after slips

Extra care and time will need to be taken when travelling in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato as a number of slips and damages to roads are being fixed.

A major slip has closed one lane on State Highway 1 at the Waimana Gorge and speed restrictions are in place as New Zealand Transport Agency contractors undertake vital repairs.

'In Rotorua, major repairs to SH5 at Tumunui will commence next week, and lengthy delays of up to 15 minutes are expected,” says a statement from the roading agency.

'Contractors will be digging out and replacing a large stretch of the highway.”

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes such as SH1 and SH30.

The Iles Rd and Te Ngae Rd intersection in Rotorua is being upgraded and delays should be expected until mid-November.

Also known as the Lynmore junction, this area will have lights and a controlled pedestrian crossing installed within the next 12 weeks.

Motorists can also expect delays at Taurikura Drive on SH29 until mid-September as upgrades at the roundabout are underway.

One lane of the SH25, 7km south of the Coromandel Township, is closed due to a slip that occurred Wednesday, August 10.

'The road is closed to trucks and other heavy vehicles, but SH25A can be used as an alternative route,” says the NZTA.

'The Rangiriri section of the Waikato Expressway also has speed restrictions in place as roadworks are ongoing along this section of SH1.”

A 30km/h speed restriction is also in place at the Huntley section of the Waikato Expressway until this Friday.

There is also an ongoing 70km/h speed restriction on SH1, between Fisher Road and where the new Huntly Northern Interchange is being built.
