Tauranga broadband uptake

Quarterly figures as at June 2016 show that Tauranga's Ultra-Fast Broadband uptake is now 32.1 per cent, says Communications Minister Amy Adams.

'Tauranga's build is progressing well, and more than 57,000 are able to connect to UFB.”

More than 57,000 people are able to connect to Ultra Fast Fibre in Tauranga.

Tauranga is streaming ahead thanks to the Government's $2 billion Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFB) and Rural Broadband Initiative (RBI) rollouts.

'Nationwide, over one million households, businesses, schools and hospitals are now able to connect to the UFB network, with uptake at 23.9 per cent,” says Amy.

'UFB and RBI are delivering economic and social benefits to hundreds of thousands of New Zealanders, creating jobs and stimulating growth in our regional communities.”

The RBI rollout is now complete in Bay of Plenty, with 11 new towers, and 16 upgrades.

More than 17,500 are able to connect to fixed wireless, and 13,500 can connect to fixed copper broadband.

Tauranga's UFB figures at a glance:

Build status: 100 per cent

Uptake: 32.1 per cent

Able to connect: 57,029

Connections: 18,328

So the roll out is complete in the Bay of Plenty is it? What about Te Puke, where we can only get basic ADSL,and the speed of that varies constantlt ? .

Te Puke is lucky!

Anywhere remotely rural can't even get reliable dial-up! Our only options are relatively expensive wireless, or eye-wateringly expensive satellite.

Te Puke

@OAP not true, certain areas in Te Puke have VDSL. We're on the same list as other towns so not like to see UFB before 2019.

One day...

Some days in Tauranga we are lucky to get any internet. We can't get reliable ADSL (even the landline phone crapped out), no fibre at our address and not likely in the next 20-mumble years, 4G at UFB speeds - what a joke. We run off the Te Puna tower most of the time at the extreme end of it's range, the entire Pyes Pa/Tauriko end of Tauranga anywhere above sea level (the Lakes) is a joke for coverage on both Vodafone and Spark. 3rd world countries have better coverage - it's just a lack of investment and laziness or worse, incompetence. Both companies blame Chorus for the lack of connections and coverage, Chorus doesn't deal with the customer so doesn't care about their network failure - they get paid regardless. Amy Adams needs to come to Tauranga and see for herself how bad it really is.
