Maungatapu delays warning

Delays of more than 10 minutes are possible for traffic using the Maungatapu roundabout this weekeknd as the New Zealand Transport Agency moves high tension power lines over the site.

The delays are expected to be so bad the transport agency is advising people to avoid the area altogether if possible.

Heavy machinery, including large cranes, will be moving a high voltage power line so work can continue on the roundabout as part of the Maungatapu underpass project.

Speed restrictions and lane closures will be in place both Saturday and Sunday between the hours of 7am and 6pm and drivers travelling through will experience lengthy delays.

Motorists are urged to use alternative routes or plan travel outside of these hours to avoid delays at the busy worksite.

This work is weather dependent and will take place the following weekend if delayed.

This weekend's work is rescheduled from work originally scheduled for the July 23 and 24. Rain is likely on Saturday night.

The NZTA apologises for any inconvenience and thanks motorists for their patience as work on the Maungatapu Underpass project continues.

Moving power lines requires the power to be cut off. I'm pretty sure all of the people affected by that would prefer the power to be off during the day than all night
