A security guard at The Warehouse in Cameron Road was knocked down by the vehicle of a fleeing shoplifter this morning, says police.
The suspected shoplifter escaped the scene in a vehicle, and in the process, knocked the security guard to the ground at about 10am.

Ambulance attended and the guard was taken to Tauranga Hospital with minor injuries, says a police spokesperson.
Police are speaking to a man in relation to the incident and are not looking for anyone else.
But anyone who saw what happened or has information about the incident is asked to call Tauranga Police on 07 577 4300.
Information can also be provided anonymously via CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.

Our society seems to be getting worse by the week, more crime is happening with the economic times. Sorry to hear about the guard but honestly .... I think alot of them need to start attending a gym class to keep their XXXL sizing at bay and maybe learn about healthy eating habits. No, I am not having a go at them, just pointing out what some of us customers see. I hope he makes a full recovery and the shoplifter is found quickly

Oh nice assumption there about his health. I happen to know the person I used to work there and he is far from over weight and in fact a Fireman. Love how you say not having a go but clearly you are, way to go.

Kiwigirl... So, you think all security guards should be male models and pin up boys? You should be ashamed of yourself. If I said all barmaids should be size 8 or less and vegetarian, I would be strung up! He was a MAN doing his job to protect others and if he was 4'9" tall and 120 KG, you would be happy to have him help you if you needed his protection.. and HE wouldn't think "No, not going to help her, she is a bit chubby" he would likely help anyone the best he can. Not only that, at least he is working... and when working long hours, how does one find time to go to the gym? You don't even know if he was a large lad or someone buff and 'gym trained' I find your comments sexist and uncalled for. I'm glad he's not seriously injured
