Third Ave smash in rain

Emergency services in Tauranga received a dawn call out today when a car knocked over a light pole on the Cameron Road Third Avenue intersection.

Police, fire and ambulance attended the 7am crash which left the vehicle involved on the central median barrier after it struck the light pole.

The car also has panel damage on the driver's side. It was raining at the time of the crash.

The driver was uninjured and was being spoken to by police, says western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion.

Traffic coming into town was reduced to one lane until Powerco and the council contractor disconnected and cleared the light pole from the lane.
